Sometimes I really question the reason why I became a nurse. Nursing school was probably one of the most unenjoyable things you could ever do. So why go into nursing and become a nurse? Well, that is a great question.

First, nursing school is nothing like real nursing. When you come out of school as a new grad suddenly everything changed. People are no longer treating you like a child and not letting you do anything. In fact, be careful for the first you might get thrown into becoming a new grad nurse.

I originally wanted to become a nurse practitioner and open up a clinic that helps treat patients' ailments and diseases by advocating for a better lifestyle, plant-based diet, and holistic medicine. Then, I realized that not a lot of people actually care about their health and changing their lifestyle. Working in the ER will definitely make you realize that. So when I finished nursing school and realized travel nurses were making more than some nurse practitioners I changed my mind about becoming a nurse practitioner. Instead, I realized that I want to just help care for people as they are and have a great lifestyle. I love nursing, especially Labor and Delivery because it is so different from an emergency or medical floor.

The reason that I became a nurse is still changing but at this point, I have realized that I like to care for people, but I do not want to pour my heart into a clinic desperately wanting people to be healthier if they don’t care. So as a nurse, I can worry a little bit less about that and simply care for them as they are and provide amazing care. I give great education and relay the message that people need to take care of themselves, but I do not want the responsibility of guiding their health care based on a patient’s life choice. I am still struggling with myself as a nurse and as a new grad. It is normal to feel lost, confused, and not sure if you are built to be a nurse. The imposter syndrome is real right now.

I have future dreams of doing travel nursing and becoming a nurse injector but at the moment, I am completely satisfied working at a hospital and learning how to be a great nurse. Becoming a great nurse requires amazing time management, clinical judgment, and experience to recognize potential emergencies. Since I am so new, my goal is to just build on my career and try to become the best nurse that I can be. I hope I do not change my mind too many more times but if I do, nursing is flexible which makes it the best career field.

inspiring some students along the way and providing material to help them succeed as nurses would be an added bonus. The nurses that gave me extra love in nursing school really shaped what kind of nurse I am today.

So if you are ever curious if school is worth it, it really is. Hang in there, finish nursing and you will become an amazing nurse. if you change your mind a million times like I did and want to become a different kind of nurse it is okay. if you finish nursing school and realize nursing isn’t for you, that is okay to change your mind. there are many options available to you.

The best reasons to become a nurse include; Great pay, working 3 days a week, job flexibility, the ability to change careers, and providing love and care to patients. These are the reasons I continue to stay in the healthcare field with the nursing crisis today. Looking into why I became a nurse hopefully inspires you that it is okay to not have the perfect answer.
